Research Interests
I am interested in
detecting the community stability and ecosystem structure (community structure,
biodiversity and productivity) in inland waters in response to anthropogenic
disturbance and climatic fluctuation through applying limnological analyses (i.e.
Cladocera, zoonplankton).
I am also
interested in applying geochemical methods (carbon and nitrogen stable
isotopes, Chla pigments) to tackle research questions on biogeochemical cycles
and food web interaction.
In the first case
study during my Msc program, I have identified the roles of lake damming and
water-level fluctuation in driving spatio-temporal patterns of cladoceran
community. Specifically, a gradual increase in water level has led to the loss
of macrophytes, benthic communities and species diversity in a medium-sized
reservoir of Southwest China. Moreover, there existed a threshold water depth
of ~8 m on both temporal and spatial scale of cladoceran community. In
consistent with the field surveys, this lake has experienced a regime shift with
the loss of benthic conmmunities hydrological regulations (Wang et al. 2019
Inland Waters in press).
My second research
work focused on the ecological changes of two alpine lake (~4,000 m a.s.l.)
without direct human disturbances over the past two centuries. We found that
climate warming might have played a more important role, when compared to the
impact of atmospheric nitrogen deposition, in structuring cladoceran
communities in two shallow headwater lakes over the last few decades (Wang et
al. 2020 in preparation).
Field experiences
During the
2017-2019, I conducted fieldwork for collecting water, zooplankton,
phytoplankton, macrophyte, aquatic isotope and sediment samples at 12 lakes in
Yunnan Plateau, China.
During the
2013-2016, I have carried out a comprehensive survey of hydrology, climate,
vegetation, soil, geology, remote sensing and so on in the Hanjiang River, Qinling,
Bashan, Gansu and Qinghai.
